Following a successful stakeholders’ meeting and sensitisation on environmental sanitation held by the authorities of the Ijede Local Council Development (LCDA) during the week, residents of the council trooped out in large numbers for the September edition of the sanitation exercise on Saturday.
Residents and business owners across the four wards of the council, heeded the council’s appeal for total compliance with sanitation exercise by cleaning their premises, gutters, and immediate surroundings.
Speaking during the exercise, the Executive Chairman of the council, Hon. Motunrayo Gbadebo-Alogba, noted that keeping the environment clean is not a one-man project or a one-day affair.
“My administration remains committed to a sanitary and healthy Ijede, but that commitment can only become reality when residents see themselves as partners, not spectators”, the Chairman said.
She further called for the continued cooperation of households, traders, landlords, tenants, and other stakeholders, and urged residents to discourage practices such as indiscriminate refuse dumping and drain blockage which, according to her, undermine the cleanliness and safety of their communities.
As usual, the Ijede Council authorities provided trucks which went round the wards to cart away dirts and other waste materials gathered by residents during the sanitation exercise.
The council boss and other officials of the council also went round to monitor the exercise.
